Marketing services for Durham contractors, and where to start

How it works

  1. Tell us where the work comes from

Send a rough list of last year's jobs by town, your typical job value and how many quotes you win. That shows which Durham municipalities are paying you and which are just costing fuel.

  2. Agree on a fenced plan

We propose which towns, services and channels to push, what each will cost per month and how we will measure it. Nothing starts until the numbers make sense to you.

  3. Speak with someone who decides

There is no intake queue and no junior handoff. Call, text or email; you'll talk to a senior strategist.

Durham Region is not one market, and that is the first thing a contractor's marketing has to respect. A roofer based in Courtice, a plumber in Ajax and a landscaper in Uxbridge share a regional name and very little else: different buyers, different drive times, different competitors. Oshawa.Marketing builds plans around that reality, town by town, so your money goes where your trucks already go.

What makes Durham different from "the GTA"

Durham sits on the eastern edge of the Toronto market, and that cuts both ways. Close to 700,000 people lived across the region's eight municipalities in the 2021 Census, which is plenty of demand. But a lot of the companies bidding for that demand are based in Scarborough, Markham or further west, and they treat Pickering and Ajax as the far end of their territory.

That creates three patterns we see over and over:

  • Lakeshore towns are crowded. Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa along Highway 401 draw both local firms and Toronto firms reaching east. Competition there looks a lot like the city.
  • Clarington is a hinge. Bowmanville, Courtice and Newcastle sit between the busy lakeshore and the rural east, and a well-run local name can still stand out there.
  • The north is about trust. In Port Perry, Uxbridge, Beaverton and Cannington, buyers lean on neighbours, local Facebook groups and reviews. A slick ad does less than a well-known name.

A plan that ignores these differences usually overspends on the lakeshore and under-invests in the places where a local contractor can win cheaply. See the areas page for a municipality-by-municipality breakdown.

The arithmetic that sets your budget

Before any channel is chosen, we work out what a lead is worth to you. It takes three numbers you already know.

Say your average job is $6,000 with a 35% gross margin, so each job leaves $2,100 to cover overhead and profit. If you win one in three quotes, a qualified lead is worth about $700 in gross margin before marketing. Spend $350 per lead and you keep half of that margin; spend $700 and you're working for free.

That break-even figure is the ceiling for everything that follows: what we bid on Google, how much content is worth writing, whether a new town is worth entering. Our guide to Durham ad budgets walks through it with more examples, including how repeat customers change the picture.

Services built for contractors here

We keep the menu short, because most Durham contractors need a few things done properly rather than everything done halfway.

The services overview explains how to choose between them if you can only start with one or two.

Proof, and how to read it

Our published case studies are results from our HVAC work, where Ali Sedighi has built more than 150 live websites. One fits Durham especially well: GasBoilers.ca, a gas-boiler division built for CANRO Heat, serves 26+ BC communities and holds a 5.0★ rating from 76+ Google reviews. Covering many communities without becoming a thin, everywhere-and-nowhere brand is exactly the problem a Durham contractor faces across eight municipalities.

Another: Roma Heating & Cooling grew organic traffic by 400% in 12 months through steady SEO. Neither result is a promise for your business. The results page explains what each one shows and what carries over to roofing, plumbing, renovation and other trades.

Who we are, and what we are not

Behind Oshawa.Marketing stands the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies, a Canadian group with its head office in Vancouver, British Columbia. It runs on the Trades.Agency model and is led by Ali Sedighi, MBA, who has more than 17 years of digital marketing experience going back to 2007.

We are a marketing and business consulting service. We don't pour concrete, wire panels or replace shingles, and we never present ourselves to your customers as the contractor. Our job is to make the phone ring with the right jobs in the right towns, then show you plainly what that cost. More on the team and approach is on the about page.

What to do next

If you already know which Durham towns you want more of, start there. Call, text or email with your trade, your base town and the towns you'd like to grow in. You'll hear back from a senior strategist, not a sales rep, and the first 30-minute consultation is free for eligible trades businesses. Plans and what drives the cost are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Oshawa.Marketing?

Oshawa.Marketing is a Canadian digital marketing and business consulting service for contractors and trades in Oshawa and Durham Region. Ali Sedighi, MBA, leads it, and it is one of the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group's brands, run from the group's Vancouver, BC head office.

Do you do contracting work or sell leads?

No to both. We don't build, install, repair or service anything, and we don't resell your enquiries to competitors. We market your company and advise you on growth, and every lead we generate is yours.

Which parts of Durham do you cover?

All of it: Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Clarington, Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock. Most clients focus on a handful of towns at first, then widen once those are producing work at a cost they're happy with.

How much does it cost?

We use Trades.Agency pricing: $1,999 a month on month-to-month terms, dropping to $1,499 a month if billed annually, with 13% HST added. Ad spend is separate and paid to the platform. The first 30-minute consultation is free for eligible trades businesses.

Are your case studies from Durham contractors?

No. They are results from our HVAC work, each linked to the client's live site. We use them to show the method, not to promise you the same numbers.

Why work with a team based in Vancouver?

Because the work happens in Google, ad accounts and your website, not in a storefront. Every recommendation is checked against what a homeowner in Whitby or Bowmanville actually sees when they search, and you can reach a senior person by call, text or email.
